Green tea has been used as a natural remedy for acne for many years. Green tea is famous for its health benefits and has been popular in China for a very long time to treat a wide variety of conditions. It is high in a compound named epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is an antioxidant. Many studies have found that it does kill cancer cells and it has also proved to be effective in relieving the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, infections and in lowering cholesterol levels.

Studies have concluded that epigallocatechin gallate, as well as acting as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent, can help to reduce swelling of the skin that occurs with acne. In a trial the American Academy of Dermatology used a 1% concentration of epigallocatechin gallate in a cream which, when applied to the skin, was found to improve the acne at least as well as, and often better than, a topical solution of benzoyl peroxide. In addition the cream did not result in dryness of the skin which is often a usual problem with using benzoyl peroxide or other treatments for acne.

Creams and gels can be purchased containing green tea or you could make your own in your kitchen. add some green tea to water and heat until boiling, then gently apply the cooled down solution to affected areas. As well you can make a drink of green tea which allows the nutrients to start to work from within. Have at least 3 cups of green tea each day and administer the preparation containing green tea to the skin up to three times a day. After about a month you should see a significant improvement in the condition of your acne and you definitely will have a much healthier skin.

There are plenty of uses for green tea for dieting and health, treatment of acne is just one of them. As with all natural cures for acne you should integrate this approach with a healthier way of life which should include drinking lots of water each day and eating a nutritious diet. Don’t despair if you do not see results straight away. As with all natural remedies for acne it will not work over night.
